It had been a week or so since shadow had flown with Luna and the other royal guards that made up Luna’s personal guard on that moon lit night, and since then he had been training none stop to the point where he was ordered to stop and rest. When he was not in the court yard training he was looking after his armour cleaning it polishing it and making sure it was in good order, the one part of his armour that he could not stop looking at when he was cleaning it was at the centre of his chest. It looked like an eye he had been told that when Princess Luna cannot be here in the flesh it is said that she can use her magic to see what we see, she made us so we are all connected with her it was made of some sort of blue crystal that he had never seen before. It was named Luna’s eye by the others he put on his armour and made his way to the court yard and met with the others they were on their way to Canterlot, for the royal wedding of Princess Cadence and Shining armour not to take part in the wedding though. The ceremonial duty was the job of the day Guard the Night Guard rarely did anything ceremonial, not their job as they moved into formation and made their way into the streets of Canterlot. 3 ponies across and 5 deep marching in perfect unison hoof hitting the cobble street as one may ponies looked at them and some even started to whisper to each other, he never realised how differently other ponies treated him but they marched on till they reached the castle and moved out in all directions. He made his way to his post on the wall normally he would not be here so early but as nearly all the day guard were dragged into the wedding, so they needed to call in the night guard early so he made his way to his post it was a small tower on the main wall. Just large enough for a pony luckily there was a makeshift seat carved into the tower he made himself comfy and rested his halberd on the wall next to him, and sighed “It’s going to be a long and boring day I just know it”

and so he waited 3 hours or so pasted. He could hear all the noise coming from the wedding “Must be a fun time” he said to himself then he heard the first scream, then another then, another he jumped out of the makeshift seat and looked over the wall what he saw made his heart skip a beat “Changelings” He said aloud. He grabbed his halberd and rushed outside leaping off the wall and gliding down to the ground as he landed he met up with one of the other night guards, the other Guard told him to go and defend the ponies of Canterlot with that he flew off over the wall. Shadow took in a breath and did the same making his way into the streets he rushed to the nearest changeling and ordered him to stop pointing the tip of his halberd at the changeling. The changeling just hissed at him and charged before Shadow knew what he was doing he had stepped to the side and swung his weapon it did its job and the changeling fell to the ground then burst into green fire all that was left was a black scorch mark on the ground, we it had fallen Shadow was sacking he did not know what he was doing till it was over. Just mussel memory and training taking over then his chest felt warm he looked down to see the blue crystal in his chest armour glowing then he swore he heard a voice in his head to go on and help the other ponies so he did moving from street to street dispatching changelings as he went, all the training taking over changelings were crude fighters when face to face Shadow came to a group of 4 ponies a mother farther and there young colt as well as a young mare. He moved to them looking around seeing no changelings he told them it was not safe and they should get inside as he turned around he heard a call from the mother “LOOK OUT BEHIND YOU!”

Shadow spun around only to be tackled by a changeling that had been hiding as the farther, the changeling forced him to the ground and tried to bite him with its fangs but he was held at bay by Shadows hoofs. But the weight of the changeling and the fact it was pushing down with all its strength to get him he knew he had to do something  looking over to his side Shadow saw his halberd on the ground just out of reach, if he had but a second he could reach it the he got an idea he unfolded his wing seeing that it had a small claw in the middle he looked at the changeling and drove the claw on his wing into the side of the changeling’s head. It roared out in pain and let some of its weight off him giving him the split second he needed to reach his weapon to grabbed it and thrusted the tip of the spear point into the neck of the changeling pushing him off as it went up in flames, Just as he got up and looked back he was hit in the face by a green beam of magic he fell back to the ground and cried out in pain. As he heled his right eye with his hoof he gritted his teeth and looked up at the creature that shot him he then let out a roar of anger showing his teeth and fangs, there was so much anger and adrenaline pumping in his veins he unfolded both his wings and propelled himself forward picking up his halberd. As he flew with impossible speed at the changeling who had hurt him it had no chance to get away when the deed was done Shadow looked at the two ponies left the mother and the young colt, he pointed his halberd as them and yelled “Are you ponies!” she held her colt close to her and held with tear filled eyes “Yes!” Then Shadow heard more noise he spun on his hoof and faced the new threat a group of 20 changelings all hissing at the 3 ponies Shadow looking back seeing how scared the mare and colt were, he then felt a rush of pain come from his eye knowing then he would most likely lose the use of it looking at the changelings he let out another roar. His roar was long and loud the blue crystal glowing brighter as he as he cried out his defiance against his foe, and the called to them in a voice that would have filled even the most bravest warrior with fear “If you what them you have to go through me.” Just then a flash of purple light appeared driving the changelings back and completely pushing them out of Canterlot, Shadow looked up and saw that all of the changelings were bean driven out of the city and just like that they were all gone. Shadow let out a thankful sigh and moved to the two ponies with him and said in a calming voice “There all gone now your safe” the mare leaped at Shadow and hugged him saying “Thank you sir” with that she took her colt and moved off to their home, Shadow watched them go into a house on the corner then lightly placed a hoof on his eye and moved off back to the barracks for medical care.

A few hours pasted and the sun finally began to set the medical officer told him what he already knew he had lost sight of his right eye, he made his away to his bunk as he was ordered to get rest. For what he had done he had been put in for a reward as he removed his armour he looked at his chest peace and said to himself “If only the others could have seen me” then he jumped up at a voice the he knew he spun around seeing Luna in front of him. She looked at him seen the eye patch that he had placed over his right eye walking over to him she said in a soft voice “We saw everything” making a gesture at the blue crystal in the armour, Shadow looked at her shocked and said “Then its true!” She said nothing but then she made a soft smile and said “We are very proud of you for what you have done when you feel better send us a letter for we have plans for you Shadow fang.” Shadow looked at the Princess and stiffened his back and stood at attention and said “What does my Princess wish of me?” “For your will be done.”
